Astral Matrix was commissioned by the International Sculpture Festa in Seoul. It was built by the artist with assistance from an international team in one month with the support of an artist residency. It was then exhibited in the Hangaram Art Museum in Seoul, as part of the ISF exhibition featuring sculpture form around the world. It now resides on a mountainous & forested sculpture park, and an oasis of peace near the demilitarized zone with North Korea.
Astral Matrix is a sculpture created as a gathering place for group meditation. Six interior seats face inward, where the designs around each individual seat echo the energetic field of each individual. The line-forms rise , flow and and merge together overhead into a cupola of vibrating forms and star-like illumination. Astral Matrix asks us to remember our human connectivity beyond bodies & borders, in the realm of spirit. Where, as Carl Sagan once said, " We are all made of star stuff."
